I seen, listed and sold many properties with a 2nd master. This is usually a room that is the same size as the primary master and has similar closets and complete bathrooms on suite. In many situations there is no difference between either room and you would have a difficult time stating which is primary and which is secondary.

There are a lot of homes with 2 master bedrooms. Whether the 2nd one is on the first of second floors is of no consequence. Most likely they will have bathroom ensuite and double closets. Oftentimes one of them is on the first floor, which appeals to 55 and over or dissabled buyers but I have also seen them on the walkout basement. Good luck on your search!

In Weddington and some high end neighborhoods there are actually "two masters" or a "Second Master." One home I showed last week literally had two rooms nearly identical to each other, one above the other. So, it depends on the home. Generally in the Charlotte Market (including Union County and Weddington/Waxhaw) a "Second Master" is as you say, a room with it's own bathroom and other "master bedroom like qualities" such as walk in closets.

thanks. I am just worried to waste time and money on what may be able to be legally cast as false advertising where it indicates a 2nd Master Up and in fact the obvious actual master is up.

Homes with a "Second Master" are more common in areas of second homes or vacation area. It typically means that there are 2 larger bedrooms with en-suite baths which is attractive for vacation rentals that may accommodate multiple couples or adult guests. From a resale perspective, this is a great feature to be able to market in a home.

There's no real legal term definition of "master bedroom" so you're safe. "Master" bedroom simply refers to the "owner's" bedroom -- which presumably would be the largest, nicest bedroom in the house. It is not an actual legal term. When we advertise which location has the master bedroom (upstairs or downstairs) it's more of a "rule of thumb" determination of which bedroom the owners will most likely use as their bedroom.

when in doubt, the master bedroom is the one closest to the laundry room!

I've seen plenty of homes with two masters. In many cases they are identical, as someone has stated already. The most logical excuse for having two masters is if two families are sharing the house or you want it for guests or a mother in-law.
In any case, it is definitely a bonus.

Well, i have just been in 2 homes over the weekend, and clearly they were Master-up homes being advertised as 2nd Master. The bedroom on the top floor was clearly much nicer with a nicely designed large bath. most of the buyer market today does not want a master-up home. This type of advertising for a '2nd master' is typically deception, not honest, and should be banned.

2nd master or other master...it just means that there are two rooms that could be used as a master. The real "master" should have their choice and the other can go to oldest child or elder parent etc etc.

I agree with the "broader appeal" comment: a good realtor is trying to cast a broad net, with unique descriptors for the property s/he's promoting to catch attention. But there are many good reasons for a home to feature (and use) 2 masters: multi-generational, boarders, boomerang kids.

I've seen and upon occasion built homes with 2 or more true master bedrooms and while it's ture many are two story homes, I've seen some that were one level homes. A master bedroom is considered one that has it's own private full bath. If you think about it, this is a wonderful thing, who wouldn't want their own full bath? Buyers I've worked with who like these homes are often 50+ and have adult kids who visit. Others are younger and want a seperate suite for their live in nanny. There are lots of reasons a configuration like this is appealing.

Two master suites and this is a good thing. Sometimes on different levels for those child raising years and sometimes on the same level for a nice guest suite.
2nd Master? What is that?
