I'm not sure you can use those things to your advantage. People in the US don't understand or care about global demand for mortgages or land based securities. That is not changing. They want to mess to go away now, but in another market cycle in 20 years they won't care anymore. Appraisers can't even agree on how to value below grade square footage so I think until that's settled once and for all they need to limit their thinking to domestic market forces.

Forget global, we need American jobs. Will products cost more, supply and demand, jobs will pay more. Want to create jobs, stop immigration temporarily except for rare cases, enforce immigration laws, very few "visa" jobs(only the best and brightest), less taxes less regulation. What a dream..
I'm sorry....... what?
I was just dreaming of the time my mom went to one of those global symposiums.......she slept for a week afterwards.......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Future is coming if we like it or not !
We will need to realize that change is necessary to survive in global markets or we will go back to the place in the history where we would rather not be.

Rather not be, like the 90's where jobs, stocks, and housing were all fantastic. Sure the markets overheated a bit but thats normal in capitalism. I guess you would prefer we were on a level field with say china? No thanks.

I heard through investors that commercial real estate is going to be a good investment in 12-18 months, maybe sooner, later I don't know anything about it really. I do know that right now China, is gobbling up bits and pieces of our commercial properties at dirt cheap prices probably just because they've got big piles of money laying around and you just can't lose on some of these deals, and if they do, so what, at least they are willing to play right now.

On March 18 I had the great pleasure of attending a day long training session presented by the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Americas entitled "Rising Above a Falling Market: 2010 Commercial Real Estate Market Symposium."
The 16 presenters during the nine hour symposium were all highly qualified professionals that delivered insights into the commercial real estate market. Featured speakers included Peter Korpacz, K. C. Conway, Andrew D. Dorchester, and Reginald R. Goeke.
The general concept that I walked way with is that both the residential and commercial real estate markets are indisputably global markets. Although real estate has its location and influences grounded in the local market, as professional property assessors, real estate appraisers, or valuation specialists we must recognize that financially real estate is part of the global market.
The top three things I walked away from the symposium with that I believe I can use in my work immediately are ...full-text of article
