The earliest it would happen is after it's too late to buy for the current credit.  So mid November or so.

sunnyview is right, no news on the subject. But, if you're interested, Zillow just did a survey and analysis to see how an extension would affect the housing market. Check out the blog post here.

No. There is bill that the NAR and National Homebuilders support that was not passed about a month ago that is still kicking around Capital Hill, but no word on any extension as far as I know. I personally do not think that it will be extended beyond the end of the year, but that's just my opinion. Congress may have their own idea.
