My understanding was that ACORN was a first time homebuyer alternative program that was a bit more flexible with their guidelines similar to FHA. I"m sure they also have a counseling offering as well to help people in foreclosure type situations too.
I think it's pretty much FHA just based out of a not for profit instead of a government program.

Uhhh...Have either of you done any research on ACORN? They are a consumer advocacy group run by nut jobs!! When I worked in the consumer finance industry for WFF, they were protesting outiside of our offices and in a couple of cases stormed into the office and make a ton of noise and cause huge scences. They also "blackmailed" HFC for several hundred million dollars to leave them alone. They have good intentions to protect the consumer from the outside but from the inside they are a rotten organization from my experience

wasn't the owner of HFC under some type of federal prosecution for loan fraud?

Hard to argue with that, but Michelle Malkin!? MM is for looking at, not listening to! ACORN has had their fair share of issues, it should be easy enough to document that using more credible sources. But I did really chuckle at Ken's first post - I LOVE activisim!

ACORN is a National agency that helps people in Foreclosure.

I figured I would post this as this may be useful information for people who will not qualify for FHA secure - Since FHA secure requires the 6 months of on time mortgage payments prior to the ARM adjustment - and certain families may have loss of job, hurt on the job, serious life illness and were unable to meet that qualification for FHA and are now facing possible foreclosure.
For those borrowers who are facing foreclosure I think it is worth a shot for them to check it out, in my opinion.
