Accuracy of Zillow estimates?

It is utterly amazing  what you folks do with the house values.  My home according to you surprisingly increased most of 2009 and part of 2010 surpassing a neighbor's home which has a bigger lot and is a larger home. Now, for no apparent reason other than correcting erronous estimates, the value according to you has dropped about 20% and the neighbor's has gone up.  There really is very little apparent rationale on how you do these estimates and by creating this type of distortion you minimize the value of using any of your numbers in asking for a new real estate tax appraisal.  What is the explanantion without a lot of excuses?  This is a free service and appears to be not that accurate or realistic.

Then what's the point of all this info on my house's value and the emails that appear saying it's lost or gained value?.  If someone is going to take all the time to assemble all this mish mash on the website, then at least base it on the realistic facts and market conditions.  It's apparent that it is fairly worthless and I won't use it.
Thanks for your insight.
