Give the underwriter what they are asking for. A pre-approval does not mean that you are fully qualified. The Closing Underwriter is the last person to sign off on your loan. They review and verify everything from your credit, employment history, financial statements, proof of funds, debt to income ratio, and they even assess the property itself. You must meet the conditions of the Underwriter no matter how frivolous they may seem, if you don't they can & will deny your loan.

Underwriter can ask for the moon sometimes, they have this ultimate decision; not always will get it.  When it does  not work, escalate to management. On condominium projects, there are so many issues that they can tie in until it gets resolved. Last time I had some termite damages. HOA preferred vendor wrote a letter of acceptance to fix the issue in less than a year. Was not accepted. I had to get the vendor to fix that damage and replace it and then we closed the sale. Anotehr tiem I haev an underwriter asking to tent the all building:16 units, everyone live in  a hotel for three days so I can sell my condo!! We escalated to upper level and they accepted a compromise.

A pre-approval is not an approval, but a starting point.

You may consider the questions trivial, but the underwriter makes the final decision.  If you wish to be approved, you should answer them promptly and accurately.   Yes, I sympathize.  Sometimes it seems to go on and on and even need your shoe size.
