Yes, with lots of attitude when I pushed back, on not rushing to a decision I will regret.
The problem is the type of house I am looking for is either a short sale, or way overpriced, neither of which seem to be closing. Which leads to a serious problem when I do want to make an offer since there are very few comps to base it on in the last 6 months. My realtor is pushing really hard that I expand my criteria to the types of homes that they do seem to be able to get closed, or raise my price range on the type that I really like.
While I will admit that the short sales may be under priced in some cases, the few normal sales that have come on the market recently that were not so grossly overpriced, have gone to pending immediately. However the last one that has actually closed, closed April and it was a short sale, so I would rather wait and see what they sell for before I even try to make another offer. Pending sales do not seem to be converting to closed sales, which ...
I really wish that I had not signed a buyers agent agreement.

I know a lot of stories from my friends. Especially about the agents steering the buyers to the overpriced houses.

Thankfully, my father in-law is our real estate agent so we didn't have any other pushy agents, however, his boss seemed to take over while we were in the process of signing paperwork to make an offer, which made us feel uncomfortable.
As for pressure to buy a home, yes, we experienced that from family, friends, co-workers, and the sort. We live in Morris County, NJ, which happens to be one of the most expensive counties in the USA, so buying something was and STILL is extremely intimidating, esp. since we're a young married couple.
We decided to buy b/c of all the incentives: low mortgage rates, tax credits, plus we've been saving for a long while in order to buy, so that we can put 20% down on a home to avoid PMI. This is an exciting time, but still, very nerving.
Hopefully my thoughts can help you out a bit.
Best of luck with your article.

I am bumping your thread hoping that people will reply to you. I hate pushy agents especially with trusting first time buyers. I have personally run interference for first time buyers who were being unfairly manipulated by their agent. I think it is unprofessional and I appreciate you taking the time to write an article about it. Honest information helps everyone.

Any first-time buyers encountered pushy agents?
Brad
