Morningside and Virginia Highlands are thought of as small communities - almost like large subdivisions. They were largely built as independent single family homes mid 20th century.
It would be hard to find a home in Virginia Highlands that is more than a mile from the hub of shops and restaurants.
The homes you will find in each are relatively comparable in terms of price when you consider the features, condition, and amount of property.
Morningside will probably feel a little more residential to you, while Virginia Highlands can feel a bit more urban depending on the exact location of the home.
The neighborhoods border each other, so there is not a significant difference in terms of access. You will need to consider whether access to Piedmont Park is something of interest. It is possible to live within walking distance of both Piedmont Park and Virginia Highlands. If you enjoy the urban concept of walking everywhere, this may be the best fit for you. I would imagine you settling on Virginia Highlands if this is your goal.
Provided you choose a non primary street, both of these areas are kid friendly.

You will probably have a bit less of options, but I would not rule out Midtown either. From Historic Midtown (where the single family homes are located) your are a short walk from Peachtree Street where you have shopping, restaurants and theatres/museums. In fact, if located on the Eastern side of Midtown, you could still walk to Va-Hi...although a bit longer walk than actually living IN Va-Hi.
Hope that offers you another option to consider.

Hey Shyam, Can you keep posting your contact information below because you are really selling me on your skills. I asked a question in a forum because that is how I want to receive the answer. If I wanted to call a realtor I would have gone online and done some research and called someone. I'm not worried about price.

Your price range determines the neighborhood too. Please do mention the price range.
