I just heard from my board that the cost to rent a lock-box key is going up again. This must be the only part of GE that's still making money!

You would think in this technology based world, they would come up with something a little better. It does get the job done, and its nice not to have to hook it up to a phone line constantly but come on!! But the future is our smart cell phones, those keys have 5 years left on their lifeline max!!

That thing is horrible! The only good thing is the flashlight built into it. You can get the program that works on your phone but the software is a little outdated since you need a PALM type phone with the ability to beam. Most smart phone don't beam anymore, they use bluetooth. Don't even get me started about the battery life.

A terribly conceived piece of technology.
Today we have the ability to make phones that are slim (BackJack II, IPhone) and or compact but somehow GE decided to give us something that is as thick as an old beeper or LifeAlert token.
Second, the battery life is awful as many have pointed out.
Finally, despite its stockiness, it is very frail. The window cracks easily.
All in all...very unhappy with the product.

Not yet! But I'm a little concerned now since our association is changing to the ActiveKEY in June....

When I belonged to another board here, we had the active key. Drove me crazy with plugging it in all the time and it was big. We switched over to Sentrilock, update it in a card reader or at the lockbox and it's like a credit card. I've found it much easier and love it.

I posted a blog about the ActiveKEY and why I'd like to throw mine in the street. Check it out:http://snipurl.com/cej2u

We used the GE Supra Ekey; is that similar? Now, of course, I have my eKey on my Treo 755 smartphone. I keep a plug in my car so that I can charge my phone or laptop if needed.

Not just battery life, but the battery it self: Getting it to power up after the battery has run out can take a half an hour.

the battery life is an issue so invest in the car charger. i've never had to manualy sync mine. it seems to work well on the wireless network thing.
But all in all i like it better then the old system.

Youbetcha! Requires charging. Slow to charge. Larger than the display key. Still requires sych ing occasionally. Not happy with it at all.
