Aquafer problem

Last December a gas well being drilled in the area (zip code 44023) literally blew a house off it's foundation.  All our water in the neighborhood is individual wells; and some of those wells have been damaged (mine has not).  However, we believe the home values in the whole neighborhood have been negatively affected and stigmatized by this event.  Is there any wasy to estimate this effect?

Novagard,

Sorry it has taken a year to reply to your question.  We just became active with Zillow.

All of us in Bainbridge are very aware of this problem.  It would have been nice if our trustees would have moved swiftly to bring city water to these communities as quickly as possible.

It is possible for a real estate agent to do a report on the selling prices for your neighborhood currently vs. what they were 3 years ago.  Since all homes have lossed significant value in the past few years, how can one determine what is attributable to the gas well situation and what was caused by the declining housing market?

I'm sure you feel very BLESSED that your home was not directly impacted.

Jim & Joan

Were the drillers using the horizontal drilling technique...I can't think of the term for it. Here is Pennsylvania we are very concerned about this drilling and its impact on wells and the water supply. Congressman Henry Waxman of Los Angeles has been investigating. Get in touch with Natural Resources Defense Council and other concerned neighbors and your local officials. I am so sorry this has happened to you.
