Ken, I agree completely. Anytime you write a check or use credit card to pay a bill you risk having the person collecting that info use your personal information. The people at the car wash can go through your glove box and get your address from your registration. When you order flowers for your wife the person taking your information can send her anthrax and can purchase gift certifcates online for about a zillion places.
If we all went through life worried about who is legit and not legit we would end up sitting in a dark hole somewhere afraid to come out in public. If you arent comfortable AFTER talking to someone then don't give them any info. Pretty simple.
