Are there a lot of real estate agents calling it quits in this recession?

If yes, what do they do for income?

In Real estate 20% of the agents do 80% of the transactions. The 20% are still doing what they always did, and the 80% is getting smaller everyday.

Quite a few agents are parking their licenses with brokers so that they can continue to make referrals for other agents while still getting some commission. Others are simply giving up.

The old statistics (pre meltdown) were that 70 to 80 percent of agents would drop out in the first three years in the business. Real estate is not for the faint of heart.

Yes. Most go back to doing what they did before the boom, others go back to school.

The answer to your first question is YES!  But actually that is the case in almost any up and down cycle.  Because it is extremely easy to get your license, many people get their licenses during an upward trending market and when the market slows then Agent either leave the business or put their licenses on inactive until we see another up market.

As for what they do for income...  Your guess is as good as mine, their is a wide variety of education for REA's ranging from a High School Diploma to a P.H.D. so the work they get instead of selling REA... ????
