We are moving to W Phoenix from out of state and we are thinking of buying a home in Avondale.  The home is N of I -10 and W of the 101.  Is this a safe area for families?  Is this a nice area of Avondale? The school district is Pendergast and the actual school my kids will be attending is Canyon Breeze Elementary.  Is the district/school any good?  Can my kids go to a school out of the boundary area (but in the same school district)? A nearby school (Garden Lakes Elementary has better ratings, so I would like to put my kids in that school if possible.  Any other info on the area would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks so much!

Most who answer hear are real estate agents. As agents it would be a violation of fair housing laws to comment on most of your questions.

Check out the Arizona Buyer Advisory. Just Google it and it should come up. Has links to resources that should help you out.

Contact the school directly to see if you can enroll.

There is all kinds of info on Avondale here. As Jason said, contact the schools directly to see if they have open eligibility. Also check out the city of Avondale web site for crime and other info. The Arizona Buyer's Advisory Jason mentioned is here.

I highly recommend you become familiar with any neighborhood before buying there. Neighborhoods in the entire Phoenix metro area can range from what you may call subjectively "good," "nice", or "safe" from one block to the next. Why not rent for 6 months or so to become familiar with the area before buying?

Good luck with your move to Arizona.
