Assistance/Credit for first time buyer.

I am about to purchase my first home in Torrance, CA. I was wondering if there are any assistance/credit programs out there that I can use. I remember there were incentives for first time buyers but I am having a hard time getting any solid facts.

The Federal first time home buyer's tax credit of $8000 expired a while back, perhaps that is what you are remembering?    In a few communities, there are down payment assistance programs, with income limits for qualification.

If you can't find anything you qualify for, put together a strategy to meet your goals.   Perhaps a 3.5% FHA down payment with several percent closing costs is a good savings goal (don't forget to include an emergency fund also).
