Attorney needed on closing day? Can another attorney represent as a substitute for the day?

Profile picture for NothingAA
For long reasons that will take pages to explain here, I need to know if I can use another attorney to represent me at the closing table if my existing attorney are too busy and can't make it.  Also, do I need to have a attorney at all if they did most of the paperwork already?  Can I go in to sign as is as this is a new build with standard contract without needing special conditions?

Hi,
I would not move forward without legal representation.  Either demand your existing attorney be present or find a willing replacement asap. Either way, seek representation.  Should you need an attorney referral let me know as I deal with several that have tremendous reputations in real estate closings.

You are not required to have a attorney- However you should be aware of all the documents you are signing and its meaning.  If you get another attorney make sure he is away of all the details of the transaction.

trust me very safe then sorry!

It is not uncommon for an attorney to send another attorney from his office if there is a conflict in their schedule.  However, they need to advise you of that ahead of time, and obtain your approval.  They talk to each other and are working off the same paper.  Did you know that if you asked your real estate agent to attend the closing he/she could answer most questions you would have and it is free.  I certainly don't discourage using an attorney.  They are the ultimate legal counsel.  It is simply a cost factor.  If you can afford them by all means use an attorney.
