I used to love Ponte and still do but their wine I like most is the Super Tuscan. But recently I went out to 4 wineries and I liked Leonessa the best. However, I strongly suggest you just buy a bottle as their tastings are the smallest servings out of all 4 we visited.
I am not looking to drink tons of wine but that was just silly. We bought a bottle for aroune $28 and sat outside, enjoying the wonderful views and great property.

Are they still open this time of year? We are going out to Palm Springs in 2 weeks and could take a side trip out there. Sounds wonderful.

OK now I have found a wonderful small winery family owned Doffo's! Great hand crafted wines. Marcello and his wife and kids run this winery! And the Malbec 2009 is truly out of this world!! There is a great outside shaded patio to enjoy! Don't miss this family style winery!

There are a lot of candidates for Best Winery...but they are all so unique and different. To pick just one is hard. I recently visited Masia de Yabar...the owners are Peruvian and they have a nice atmosphere and great music in the evenings. But South Coast is top notch and Wilson Creek is always a great place to visit. I think the fun is in finding new places to visit as each has its own charm.

It depends on what you're looking for. For Methode Champenoise, commonly known as Champagne, I would recommend Thornton Winery http://www.temeculawines.org/wineries-vineyards/wineries/thorton-winery.php
However, if you're just looking for the Biggest & the Best, I guess it would be South Coast Winery http://www.temeculawines.org/wineries-vineyards/wineries/south-coast-winery-resort-spa.php
There are many other notable wineries worthy of exploration. One thing I might mention is a thought from a friend of mine, who just happens to be an expert on wine, is that the Temecula Valley's climate is not really conducive to producing good red wine (with the exception of an occasional Rose). You're better off going with the white wines.
