Tough question and, unfortunately, there's no quick and easy answer. If I had to give one piece of advice -- I'd say write about what you are passionate about.

hello brenda, blogging is really an easy thing to do, you can post anything that you like to post, it depends on your target market, if you like to share info with other realtors then you can do a more technical type of postings, if you like to reach alot of audience, then choose interesting topics that appeals to everyone, and from time to time you can talk about the properties that you are selling or your marketing efforts to sell those properties. all it takes is practice and habit. the latter is the hard part in blogging, sometimes you get tired of doing it and you give up on it. i am trying not to lose interest in blogging, cause i get bored easily, usually i can do a blog for say 2 months then i wrapped up and closed it. and maybe after some months again, start a fresh new one again, cause sometimes, it comes to a point that i get sick of talking to myself lol...good luck on that brenda

Thanks Jason for the point of view, but thats what I am thinking to myself, why would I want to talk to myself, how dull. At least on the discussion boards I get some type of feedback or response, good or bad.

Building a blog audience takes time -- more than 2 months (unless you are some celebrity). I'd recommend sticking to one blog for at least 6 months before determining if its a success or failure. Additionally, you have to post often and link to numerous other blogs.

Many real estate professionals are using blog to reach consumers in their area. Take a look at Teresa Boardman's blog in St Paul, Minnesota as a great example - http://www.stpaulrealestateblog.com/
Her blog has the number one google ranking for "st paul real estate" - http://www.google.com/search?q=st+paul+real+estate&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

you are right on that drew, blogging always takes time in order to build the audience. but it helps though with web ranking or giving browsers more reasons to stay or browse your site again. that's what i learned when i started blogging, in order to get the readers, you have to do the linking or else your blog will just be one out of the millions blogs.

that had been an issue with me brenda after blogging for some time, i got bored with it, its like hearing my voice over and over again. that is why sometimes i deblog everything, then when i get back again in the blogging world, i start fresh again. still drew has a point, blogging should be at least 6 months before you say whether or not you should continue. maybe its just me, i have a short attention span.

Blogging makes those of us who neglected in getting something published years ago in paper print, do it now online. There are so many blog sites that are useful to agents: wannanetwork, activerain, reliberation, myspace, and on and on.
I should note that there is actually a fairly long list of local real estate blogs as well as real estate industry blogs on the Zillow wiki for those interested in browsing through a couple.

Blogging isn't for everyone. I happen to enjoy it. Some find it painful. If you don't enjoy it, you likely won't stick with it.
It does take time. But it is clearly a viable way to get prospects, clients and exposure.
What to blog about? The list is practically endless. Start by reading other established real estate blogs -- that can give you an idea of what can be done with a blog. If you comment on other agent blogs, and link to them, you can steadily build a readership. I now get more traffic, and better search engine rankings, with my blog than I do with my main website.

There are some examples of realtor blogs that you can find at the top of realtor.com for inspiration. However, as silly as it sounds, your blog might get attacked by bubble bloggers so be careful.

I think it depends why you want to do it. I think there are faster, more efficient ways to get leads. Blogging may work against you if you spend too much time doing it.

Those are, for the most part, horrific examples of real estate blogging.

I think you should plan on having your blog for at least a year before you dig into it. I really enjoy blogging and it seems to be a great tool for real estate agents and lenders alike! Good luck.

If you're more of a speaker, I find that when I do blog coaching that Jott offers a great solution for creating blog posts and for productivity.
Also, considering using old emails to answer questions on your blog
Podcasting or interviewing is a third option, which doesn't require amazing writing skills.

Contributions:428I know that blogging is the answer of many people here to increase exposure and pick up leads. Here's my thing though.. I'm far from a writer. I wouldn't have the first idea of what to talk about in a blog. What suggestions could you make (perky) to fix this problem. How can I become a great blogger?
