Buying a HUD home with a conventional loan. Home has $5,000 termite damage. Will HUD pay for repairs

HUD says they only sell homes "as is". Is it true they won't pay for termite repairs on a conventional loan?

"as is" means just that, but you can always try.  Most likely the appraisal may indicate that the sale is subject to termite treatment.

It is unlikely they will pay for repairs, but if this was not disclosed when you made your offer and found out about the damage and expense during inspection, you can certainly re-negotiate the terms of the deal.  They are pretty good at offering a discount or credit to cover unanticipted conditions.
