Buying a home

How updated is your information on your site? I called a realtor about a home that was listed and he said that information on that home is old and been sold.

The information regarding the availability of a property is not accurate and the listing status appears not to be updated in some instances.  Often the listing agents wish to keep the listing as showing as being still available to get leads for other properties. The area where accurate info can be found regarding the status of properties in my area is on my site when clicking Property Search.

Zillow is not syndicated with local MLS's. There is no way you can have up-to-date listing information without syndicating with MLS. However, Zillow is doing a good job crawling county tax records for those SOLD property. So, we hope one day Zillow can automatically update those listings' status after COE and recorded at county. Before it happens, you will just need to check with your local agent for the most accurate status of any listing.

Not all agents use Zillow, and the information is generally only as accurate as those that enter it, and it's not updated regularly. Therefore I wouldn't rely on Zillow solely to search for a home. Find an agent you trust, and get along with, and they will make sure you have the most up to date listings and information!  Plus 99% of the time a buyer's agent is paid by the seller, kind of hard to turn down free help :)

information varies from property to property.  in the case of "for sale" info, it's typically the homeowner or listing agent's responsibility to update that info-- if you contacted the listing agent and he said he wasn't still listing it because it has sold, he should have been the one to log into Zillow and update it to remove it from his listings.
