Fair Housing Act

There is no law that says you cant refuse to negotiate with someone you don't care for. However if someone belonging to a protected classes feels you are discriminating against them, you could end up in a law suit.

Depending on which state your in, it most likely will not favor you.

You are a property manager, surely you have to deal with people you don't care for all the time.  However, as noted as long as you do not illegally discriminate you don't have to deal with them.

I agree with David's comment "this is a great benefit of using a real estate professional."  
You don't mention whether you're FSBO or using a discount broker.
When the buyers and sellers work through their agents it's an excellent buffer when the situation is a personality conflict, divorce, etc.  You don't need to like the person you sell your home to if your goal is to get it SOLD.
A seller can accept, reject or negotiate an offer that is submitted.  Compliance with Fair Housing regulations and laws, etc. as mentioned previously is required.

You may, but your are limited in some ways. As Dorene stated, make sure you're in check with Fair Housing regulations. Sometime you must make a hard decision, and it sounds like you have one now. If they are hard to work with at this point... think about what's going to happen down the line. If the end result is "SOLD", it might be worth the trouble. This is also a great benefit of using a real estate professional. I understand you wanting to save money on commission but some things are worth their weight in gold. Market knowledge and a smooth transaction is priceless. Using agents could sell the home faster and for top dollar, minus the headache and sleepless nights.

Not every buyer (or every seller) is our "cup of tea" so to speak. You should be negotiating through your Realtor so that your direct contact with the buyer is minimal.
In my opinion, you should not ruin a potential sale, just because you don't like something about the buyer,however, if you are not in violation of Fair Housing laws in your objections, it is not illegal.

Fair Housing specifies you cannot discriminate on housing because of race, color, national origina, religion, sex, familial status or handicap (and in some states, sexual orientation).   If you wish to discriminate against someone because they plan to kill all the trees, or drive a BMW vs a Volvo, you can make that choice.
