Absolutely. The best way to get alerts is directly through your MLS. It takes 3-5 days for listings to be posted on third-party sites; but on the MLS it is direct to you. The MLS will send you notifications up to 5 times a day, if you like. This way, you're searching the same way a Realtor is.

Many Realtors sites have direct access to the MLS through a service called IDX. Should you see a web form on a Realtor's site, this will connect you directly.
