Can an L1 visa new employee obtain a housing loan?

Hi, my husband has just been posted to OKC from Malaysia with the same oil servicing company he has been for 13 years and he will be holding an L1 visa. He will commence employment in Dec 2012. We were wondering if it would be possible for us to obtain a housing bank loan and purchase a house instead of renting one. Could you kindly advise and what is the requirement for doing so.Many thanks in advance. Andrea.

I work with a lot of international buyers, HSBC has/had a program, however you have to be a 'premium' member meaning you need to have a lot of money in their bank that is not used for the purchase....and things change so quickly double check to see if they will still lend. The other way is what you have said, two years worth of income and  good credit. It's frustrating as we have so many people coming from other countries. I wish we would have a better international system.

Thanks all, looks like we either bite the bullet and purchase in cash (if we are lucky enough to have that funds) or just wait :-P...

Hard money lenders can probably help, but the "premium" is steep.  Is it worth it?  That all depends on you.

Best wishes from So-Cal and good luck

I am in the same situation, several banks have said that I need to be in the US and working for 2 years before they will give a loan.
