When you are working with rental homes it is very important to paint a good picture for your prospective landlord.  Adding a letter explaining your current situation is of particular value when trying to land a rental home!

It depends on the landlord.
There may be other factors involved other than employment.

Yes an unmarried couple with only one income can rent a house together.  Mot landlords would require that the income be at least 3 times the rent amount after satisfying other debts such as car payments, credit cards, student loans etc.

The lease however, would have to be under both parties so the person without the income would still be liable for the lease if the other party doesn't pay it.
