Can unmarried couples qualify for the 8000 tax credit?

Profile picture for pkolb
I'm looking to buy a house with my boyfriend.  We've found the right home, but will need to do some improvements to the house.  We were counting on the 8000 tax credit until we caught wind that we will not qualify as an unmarried couple.  I'm struggling to find this information...Anyone know the answer?

Mike is right.  You should be able to get the credit.

Be careful though as when we started looking I found out that my girlfriend could not be on the loan with me as she is self employed and her business is less then 2 years old.  So I had to qualify for the home by myself.  (nevermind that her takehome pay after expenses then me :P)  Of course we were doing a USDA loan so other programs might not be as strict.

What information have you been given that would make you think you wouldn't qualify as an unmarried couple?

Here's the link to the IRS site.
