"Certified House Minder"?

Is there some way or organization to find a person, with references and adequate insurance, who can look into a furnished home on a weekly basis when the owner is away, do simple repairs such as replacing a light bulb or resetting a timer, light maintenance such as removing old newspapers and report if more substantial work is needed? The person would just have to visit the premises for 30 minutes or so, not live there, and would be paid for their work.

You may want to call a local Home Inspector and ask if they would be interested. They would meet the insurance requirement and certainly be qualified to report on maintenance issues. You could also try a Mortgage Feld Service Company as this is similar the inspection service they provide for mortgage companies.

Depends on where you are, but most places have bonded and insured  house sitters that you can hire.
