Composite Decking

I have found PRO CELL decking to be the most bang for the buck. Very hard scratch resistant surface. planking comes 5/4"-6" grained . The product is made of mostly PVC. so it does not take on water or stains. Pro-cell is lightweight and easy to install.
Azek has come out with a similar product. only to find out they have patented a new fastening system that countersinks the screw while cutting a hole for the supplied plugs. This sounds great and I've tried them at a trade show. Has anyone used them in the field.
I have installed many Mahogany decks. The process of drill, countersink, and plug, and sand is very time consuming. The result is beautiful yet costly for the client. Having said all that has anyone tried the new Azek plugs.
Thanks, Mark

Sounds like a great marketing strategy to move into the lower end market for the time being.

Pro Cell Decking has been bought out by the AZEK company. It has the same great qualities as Pro Cell.

We haven't used the plugs yet but the hidden fasteners work well and are faster than coming back and plugging all the holes.

I was watching this old house the other day. They had a hidden deck clip, that went into the side of the 2 x 10, which utilized some sort of biscut like clip.  It was fast and solid and you don't see it or have to plug it.  Plus it allowed for water to fall through.  Might want to go to their website and research it.

Hello,
Thanks for the input. I have used the plastic biscuits to install decking. The product I used was called (EP-TY) I found them easy to install but being made of plastic special care had to be used not to sink the stainless screw head to far. This would cause the TYE useless.
Someone should patent a fastener that is more rigid and less expensive.

Hey,

We have used AZEK decking on one project down in Old Lyme, CT.
Owner had problems with wood peckers, as much as he loved them, and eventhoug they where trying to eat up bugs from corner board, he hated that every year there where holes than needed to be patched....

We used AZEK boar, concer was with the artificial look, but after a good SW primer and two coats of BM they look as old as the rest.

Great stuff, for bird problems, if you have one let us know!

Jerry
