Corvallis does have a lot going for it for certain lifestyles.   The number of decent restaurants has improved from one or two to four or five.    The Farmer's market is one of the best true farmer's markets I've been to with real local growers.  The quality of food in places like Market of Choice and TJs has improved the food scene dramatically as the First Alternative has priced themselves beyond reach.   The easy access of hiking trails is without compare, and hoping to the fine sandy beaches in less than an hour is wonderful.

But, Corvallis is in a serious growth crisis with the University pushing for such rapid expansion and devouring wonderful single family housing areas with attrocious four story townhomes.       Accepting the expansion is setting up Corvallis for a crash in the next 10 to 20 years as more and more higher education is on line and less and less brick and mortar campus is required.  The rotten couches on the curbs and the trash everywhere associated with football games puts a bigger wedge in the town vs gown issues.

Really, I am driving through those neighborhoods all the time, of course there are couches on the porches around campus but "rotten couches on the curb"? really not unless it is close to pick up time... And after the games clean up is fast. Overall the town is clean (and I have standards). I really love living here and we have looked at a ton of other towns before we settled in Corvallis. I am happy with the schools (older son now in CVHS starting ski team soon (!)). And if you look at expansion rates of housing elsewhere, Corvallis'' relative containment has kept inventory (and with that prices) stable after 2008, we did not enter the crash and burn state as so many other towns.
