Current Market Pressures

There are a large number of high end properties on the market at this time.  I wonder if this will drive down prices?

The large number of high end properties are a result of the disproportionate sales mix. There are far more first-time home buyers and investors than move up buyers due to the general economy and housing bubble.

More than the large number of high end properties, the removal of the housing subsidies and mounting foreclosures will continue to put downward pressure on the housing market.

Add these concerns with the sixth straight month of decline in the S&P/Case Shiller 20-City Composite, and there's better than even odds we're staring over the precipice of the second leg down of the projected double dip.

I am in Hanover, NH the home of one of the Ivy's Dartmouth College. We are a bit more insulated in that both the college and DHMC the medical center continue to contribute in very significant ways to our enonomy. Prices on real estate for the year 2010 up till now are so far very good, things seem to be well or at least better here than many other parts of the country.
