Isn't that terrible?  Zillow has given me two more "local expert" badges due to posting too many responses on certain questions.

Of course it is machine determined by a number threashold, so there is no screening or human review to see if contributions really show any sign of familiarity with any given area.

You are absolutely right; the reason Zillow named me a "Local Expert" is because I'm on Michael Jackson Drugs under the care of a Skilled nursing facility.  And yes, all 12 of my computers were already taken away by the undertaker, which is why I'm still primarily running DOS operating systems and have 4 Commidor-64's.

Really, if you want to move on, you might as well do so, because I'm going nowhere.

And YES, the addess of my house is still posted on Zillow, and I've received threatening calls from realtors at my work office because of it!

If you don't like the fact that I am not here to solicit business, then file a formal complaint.

But really, what good would it do for you to solicit business on a site like this if the only ones that posted were people like you?

Yes, it is clear that my "local expert" badge has expired; the user profile states "October 2008 to December 2008", for two different overlapping regions.  It expired simply because I stopped answering questions about my area and about my house.

Wondering why you can't see it?  Simply because I stopped using that profile and renamed it due to the harrasment from so called "professionals", but I didn't delete it as I didn't want to unclaim my house or remove any information posted to it.  Besides, Zillow doesn't offer an option of deleting a profile, only disabling it, thus renaming it is more affective.

Keep my "guessing" to myself?  I do know the answer; Zillow already posted they change the criterion at will many times since establishing the badges, AND they already stated that "photos" are weighted higher than text posts.  As for "listings", I have no clue and I really don't care as I ignore most of the listings.  I certainly didn't get declared "local expert" due to "listings" as I have none and want none.

I don't think this is an answer: "So,maybe a "listing" or "photo post" also count as a local question answer? Or perhaps some types rated higher than others?"- your words. If you did not know the answer you should keep your guessing to yourself.
Are you local? I don't think so. You don't use your real name do you?, You don't list any profession do you? Why is that? something to hide? It's kind of hard to step up when you hide behind your blurry picture and your computer and talk smack.
You accuse me of misleading tactics, but what's your agenda? I think your an emotionally disturbed person who should adjust his meds, and your caretaker should take your computer away because I think you are obnoxious.

Joseph -

If you absolutely did not care about the real answer to your question, why did you bother asking it in the first place???

And why are you stating that there are too many answers, when many threads have well over 100 answers and some have over 1000 answers, and over half the posts on this thread are your posts???

It makes it sound like you are just complaining as you are not considered an "expert" in your local area...

Redundant?  Yes, your posts are "redundant" and mostly false conjecture.

YES your "misleading tactics" are something the public should be made aware of so they can avoid your "opportunistic" "self-serving" ramblings.

So you plan to "move on"?  What state are you moving to?

So, maybe a "listing" or "photo post" also count as a local question answer?  Or perhaps some types rated higher than others?

Zillow typically doesn't publish their criterion formulas, though they can be reverse-engineered if someone really cared.  It is clear from some Zillow moderator comments that photos are typically rated much higher than other posts.  I have no idea if "listings" are used in the criterion or not, but I wouldn't have been assigned "local expert" for listings as I never had any.

For the "all star" status, I think Zillow indicated that a photo was worth more than 10 regular posts, thus providing some images for some houses could take one up the ranks very quickly.

Just remember, Zillow keeps all photos loaded forever, even if you think you deleted it, and once an Zillow page address is obtained, those that save the address can get back to that photo anytime.

(Zillow doesn't mind that you know photos are rated so highly; they really are trying to encourage building up a huge photo database for all properties and vicinity).

Its time to let this entry go!, I think everybody keeps returning because there are so few if any Staten Island entries anymore since zillow removed the Staten Island drop down tab and 99% of the neighborhoods. Lets find something new to talk about.

I think you are mistaken, because I am looking at a top local expert here in Staten Island, NY who has never answered or asked a question.

It has nothing to do with listings or being an agent....

My old profile has a "top local expert status"; it is only the number of local questions answered..., whether regarding specific properties or the area in general.

I was checking some of the listings, and saw a listing for 3 Richmond Terrace in Staten Island, HA HA there is no such address, and if it was an address it would be the SIRT train tracks in front of the ferry, and the picture did not match the area. No wonder this local expert has over 100 listings; unbelievable, people really need to know who they are dealing with.

Hello Lacey,
My comments were directed toward the local puffers, certainly not you. You mention 1 duplicated listing - that's understandable, the puffers I was commenting on actually have some non existent addresses, listing that are under their name as theirs, and also counted under another agent's name again. Caveat emptor means let the buyer beware. I think buyers should be aware of these misrepresentations, don't you?

I've just checked my own listings and have found that 1 has been added twice. This happened because i first added the listing to Zillow myself, then then the agency i use to syndicate my listings must have added it.

I'm not defending those agents who have "puffed" their way to the top, but there could be other reasons why they have more than one listing added more than once. They may simply pay multiple advertisers.

As long as the public is aware of these misleading tactics they can make intelligent choices, and avoid the self serving opportunists.

I totally agree with you. What do you think that fairest way to do this would be so padding or combining listings is less important to the ranking? I would like to see that too, but I can't think of a really solid way to do it. The best agents don't always have the most listings and the listing numbers alone don't help the consumer find a really good agent either.

I invite you all to see the same results I have seen; brokers and associate brokers "padding the web site" . Click onto many of the alleged high listing brokers aka "top local experts" and cross reference the listings with agents in the office, the local listing service, and public records to see  misrepresentations.

Some "Top Local Experts" are definitely padding, inflating, and misrepresenting their statistics. When it sounds to good to be true it probably is. When an agent has over 100 active listings be wary. Facts are stubborn things. The fact is that I did some simple checking (as any of you can easily do also) and I found one broker placing his agents listings under his "VIEW MY LISTINGS" section. Coincidentally the same listings also appeared under his listing agents name as that agents in another area. So the same listing was being counted twice which is clearly a misrepresentation. Further investigation revealed fictitious addresses coupled with incorrect photos of other areas. The apparent motivation by the broker is to move his positioning to the top of the list, and appear superior to others. Caveat Emptor!
