Does anyone know how I can find out the owner of a home that is an abandoned project?

I have been trying to identify the owners (bank/person) who owns two house on the the same street.  Both were projects that were aparently abandoned 1-2 years ago.  I have checked the tax assessor (both online and within their office) and can not find a reliable number.  The numbers listed are always disconnected! I leo the homes and would purchase either. Please Help!!!! Thanks

It doesn't surprise me that the phone number is unreliable.  Obviously, the county has to send the tax bill somewhere.  You're only hope might be to send a letter to the address on file.

Most people that stop a project don't want to be contacted.  Or they may have had family emergencies that took them out of the area.

Still, they had to get a building permit, and thus the local building department should have some information.  They even may know why the projects were stopped and what the owner intends to do.

Find a good Realtor in your area who is good at tracking down this type of information. You could have a full title search done to see if there are other parties who could be contacted.

Every Realtor has access to this information thru the MLS tax records.  Ask a real estate professional to help you.

Check in with the courthouse in your area. You should find a Registry where all the info you need can be found.

I would suggest checking the tax records.

You can certainly do as others have suggested and look at the tax information, and/or you can contact a local agent to help you track down the information. But you should be aware that most people who have tried to track down ownership on a home like these tend to describe the experience as being like banging your head into a wall.

Until a home is listed with an agent, it is very difficult to make an offer, much less buy it. The foreclosure process takes time, and until the steps are completed it legally can not be sold. However, by using an agent, you can at least be ready to make an offer when the home is listed. Good luck!
