You have to look at the potential gains vs the cost of the remodel. Yes buyers love new stuff. Especially when they don't have to pay for it. A really dated kitchen or bath is sometimes worth fixings. I usually have my sellers concentration on less expensive things like fresh paint (when needed), carpet cleaning. nice flowers in the front..... What is the point in spending $40,000 on a kitchen when you will only see $15,000 back.

My buyers always love to see updated kitchens and bathrooms. Granite counter tops and ceramic tile floors are best, but l agree with James. Don't over do it.
If it is in your budget, most of my buyers prefer hardwood floors in the bedrooms. If you choose carpet, go with neutral colors.

The greatest return is on remodeling the bath. Followed by remodeling the kitchen. Do not over do, just a good solid remodel consistent with house and neighborhood.
