Does the reported finished square footage on zillow include the basement?

The square footage is often pulled from the tax assessors office which here in Minnesota I have found to be correct about 30% of the time. Sometimes they include the basement but most of the time they do not.

The reported square footage on Zillow comes from the tax assessor's office, and in most cases doesn't include the basement (even if finished).   In most communities only above grade finished space is included.  

Yes, there are some fudge words in my sentence, there are a few communities where finished basements are included  although usually they are called out separately.
