FORECLOSURE CRISIS STILL FELT IN POCONOS

Profile picture for dthoenig
The national economy is showing signs of improvement but that apparently hasn't hit the housing market yet. National figures for 2010 are still coming in but foreclosure rates were up 11-percent in the third quarter of the year. At the same time fewer Americans were receiving financial aid to restructure mortgages. Monroe County Prothonotary George Warden was still tracking local numbers today. He says Monroe County has recorded just over two thousand new foreclosures through the end of 2010. That's up from 1900 last year. In Pike County 981 foreclosures were recorded this year - up from just under 800 in 2009.

I personally don't believe that the economy is improving, despite what some sources may say.  I believe that many of the claims regarding economic upswing are closely tied to the political agenda of the source.  While the unemployment numbers went down slightly over the last month, the number of UNDERemployed went up, and over 500,000 individuals stopped looking for jobs.  In order for the housing market to get back into shape, we need to lower the taxes so that buyers will have an increased sense of security, and so that investors will stand to reap a greater reward.  Government does not create jobs, stimulus, prosperity, or increased home sales.  Government stands in the way of all those things, and it's about time the government stepped aside.
