An Andrew explained already, MI does not exist on HP. Not up front, not paid outside of closing, not monthly. It should not be mentioned at all in a Homepath conversation.It is possible the originator might have been talking about LLPA (Loan Level Price Adjustments), which are pretty high for low down payment HP loans, and it is also possiblie the originator might have said something like "you don't have to pay MI, but you have to pay these extra fees instead for HP".
I suggest you look at 10% down HP, you might find a happy medium there. You might also want to look at 5/1 ARM HP since you mention not keeping for more than 5 years. 5/1 ARM HP might help you get a rate you like better.
