The $8,000 tax credit is up to 10% of the purchase price, so in order to qualify for the total of $8,000 the purchase price would need to be $80K or higher. There is a form you fill out after you close to receive the credit on your taxes when they are paid for the year 2009. There are also restrictions depending on income level. The home does need to be purchased by 11/30/09 in order to qualify. Remember, if you owe the gov't any money - then the credit will be taken to help offset any due. It's not as if they are turning around and just giving you the $8,000 - it all depends on taxes.
