How much would it cost to have a furnace replaced?  I live in a 1700 sq ft house in the midwest.

I will ask my nephew for you as he does this work. We are in chicago but price should be about the same.

I replaced my oil boiler and burner two years ago. Got a top of the line Buderus and it was around $5500 I believe. I had other work done at the same time ( added heat to the basement & a second zone so my total cost was more, but I recall the furnace part somewhere in the $5k range.

Btw, even with the price of oil per gallon skyrocketing the last two years and heating an additional 900 sq ft I am only paying what I was before replacement. I shudder to think what the cost to heat my home would be now if we didn't replace our old furnace (which was from the 50's.)
