I have been looking into this program for someone else. A few states have this funding. Is New Jersey really handing out $40,000 grants to people on unemployment? I doubt it. From what I've read about the program, they will have an incentive to help as many people as possible. So, why not help 4 people who are behind by $10,000 versus helping one who's behind by $40,000? Surprised they even stated such a huge amount unless they wanted to pave the way for approval for a friend of the State - if you know what I mean.
There is goo gobs of info in the search engines although most of it is repetitive. I came across a site where same as you, some are saying the response to their applications leaves a lot to be desired. But since when does government move fast?
There are some facts about the progam that are peculiar to say the least. From the info online, a max of 4000 homeowners will get anything. It is amazing that the program began in May 2011 and it's taking this long to find 4000 eligible unemployed homeowners??? Mr. Magoo could find 5x that many. Wanna bet they will still be looking next year? With all the people that need help, the state can't find 4000 in eight months?
Like someone said on that site, they are going to take all the time necessary to cherry pick through many thousands of applications to get the cream of the crop of unemployed homeowners. Even if you're unemployed, your situation could be much worse or much better than someone else.
I don't want to rain on your parade, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. Good luck though. I hope someone holds NJ and other states accountable to have to report the results of the funding.

Thanks for helping. I saw a link to a performance report that says since the program started in may 2011, homekeeper has only allotted $3016.39 to two women living in morris county who were apparently not very needy at all. All 2 of them had no late payments, very low mortgage payment, very low balance, positive equity, no 2nd mortgage. Like sandwich said, they are doing extreme cherry picking and still can't find any cherries.

I have a client that has experienced delays similar to yours. Try contacting your state Senator and Assembly representative. Perhaps their staff people can intercede with NJ HMFA.

I do not know about it, but there was a hardest hit fund started by the Federal government that sounds familiar to this program. I found a contact page for NJ Homekeepers here.
There is an informational page on it through your state NJ website here. I would contact NJ Homekeepers and see what they say. Hope the links help.
