I would like any opinions on this as the home I am trying to sell has gold in the family room. My agent says it's fine since gold is in style but conventional wisdom has always said to keep it more neutral. Any thoughts?

Can you post the link to your house? I can't see your pics.
Marci, your post made me lol. My FIL always said people become agents because they're nosey and want to look in people's houses! LOL! (My MIL was an agent... lord help us all...)
Sorry.... ok, anyway, is the gold metallic gold or ochre kind of gold? (Used to work for JCrew :o)
pics would definately help!
Well, pink, that is true, but it depends on the color of gold she is talking about and unless I can see it, it's hard to answer.
Of course Marci! I totally agree (metallic gold or ochre gold?)
sorry hear is my house
wow! gorgeous house! my vote would be to make it neutral, not that the color isn't nice.
Painted one of my bathrooms Ralph Lauren metalic gold....oops
Neutral warms tones
Beautiful house! I'm on the fence. It couldn't hurt, but the room is bright light wise so it can carry that color. I guess depends on your budget!
I disagree; there's not much of the color and it offsets the open neutral areas. I say leave it.
I think you have a beautiful home. This is what I posted on the other thread in the Real Estate section.
In my opinion, I think gold is easy to live with and more classic. I think people prefer colors with more gold undertones. To me, gold brings warmth to a room.
I stand by that even before I saw your pics. I would keep it that way.
I love it. Beautiful house. It's a very warm color and goes with the decor. Have you received negative feedback on it?
Also, IMO, you need something tall to go over your fireplace to accentuate that ceiling height.
OMGosh Pinks got the vizual
Pink your FIL and Daddy Shade clearly went to the same driving school after their last tickets.....
It's funny I read 'gold' and expected to hate it, but I think it works. I agree with Marci, though...the scale seems a bit off. Not anything to be too concerned about, more for if you're looking for something to do :)
Great home! I would kill (not really) for that kitchen. Although I don't cook. It would be nice to look at!
About your gold, I think it's really pretty like it is. I wouldn't change the color. But I do think you need something really tall on the mantle.
Put the pictures on hgtv.com/rate my space and those gals (or guys) will tell you exactly what to do! Some of the comments are really helpful. It's still a beautiful home!
I think your gold is very pretty. Beautiful house!
Beautiful color, wouldn't change it.
I'd repaint it to neutral. When I'm looking at houses, paint color isn't a dealbreaker because it can be changed easily, but I like seeing rooms that I won't have to repaint immediately. I can move my furniture in and leave a room neutral for a while without disliking the look. But if I move my stuff into a colored room and it doesn't match, that's just another thing I have to change right away. Your room color is very pretty (the whole house looks lovely), but my furniture would look ghastly in there and I'd have to add 'repaint right away' to my list of things to do. The longer that to-do list gets, the less likely I am to make an offer on a home.
I think it looks great. We had a similar color in our house - painted there on purpose to sell (nice, bright, and still fairly "neutral" in my book). Worked for us.
Great color; I'd keep it. My humble suggestion: your house has grand, soaring spaces; if you can't match the scale of the house with your accessories, you're better off without them. Examples: wreath over LR door, pictures on mantel, plants on entertainment center, candle on coffee table. Think "baronial" - a group of big candles in 3 holders of varying heights on the table; a big "something" (architectural finial, huge topiary) on the entertainment center. Try for odd numbers in accessories; pairs of plants, pictures, etc., serve to limit spaces and confine the eye.
It's a lovely house; tweaking the decor a bit can really point up its features.
The gold is very classy looking and very neutral, so unless you WANT to paint, I would suggest leaving it. If it should be a selling obstacle, paint it for the buyer!!
I do agree about a taller piece on the mantel to emphasize the height of the room.
Sorry about the "technical difficulty!!" :-o
Very warm and pretty color. I would leave it.
