The Listing agent will appear on The MLS (Multiple Listing Service) as the Listing agent, a lot of other agents will re-advertise a property that is currently listed on the market in order to obtain leads and prospective tenants...any active agent should be able to provide you with their license number in order for you to verify that they are an active agent with the state... No Real agent will ask you for money before showing your the property and or having you sign a lease or contract to lease... i would contact whomever you gave your money too and ask them for their license number in order to make sure that they are in deed a licensed agent and or firm! Good Luck!

This is exactly why it's a good idea to have a reputable agent represent you when you're buying OR renting.  Contact one now.  Good luck.

Ask your agent to show his real estate license, then you can search online if he is really licensed. I would contact the person that you gave your money and let him know about your concerns.

Good luck

Here's a link to Zillow's FAQ on scams and internet fraud.  The real agent will give you a tour of the property before taking any money.
