Hard Wood Flooring Question

Profile picture for pennyrain
My husband and I have installed hardwood floors (Brazilian cherry colored acacia floors from Lowes) in our spare bedroom.  We really like the look but are concerned that the quality is not the greatest.  Would it be weird to have our spare bedroom done with the hard wood acacia floors from Lowes and then in the rest of the house (it's only a 2 bedroom condo) put in a slightly different wood floor, ie the color would not match exactly...any thoughts?

I don't think a slightly different color will be a big deal... but make sure the transition is logical.

Is the question about quality based upon the installation, the finishing, or the product itself?

If the installation is at fault, check  with different installers to see if it the same material can be installed differently.  I have seen instances where a floor product installed poorly, makes the quality look bad.

If you like the look stick with it.  If you don't think it will hold up in the heavy traffic areas of the condo, go with a similar color but a more durable wood.

I would stick to the same brazilian cherry wood if it's not too bad.  It's like having different color carpet in every room.  Like Sam, said it can be transitioned well, but in general it's best to have the uniformity.

If you think the current floors look good, and you aren't having quality issues with them, just continue them throughout.

If not, price out the difference for the higher quality floors throughout the entire condo, and without the single previously-floored room.  It's probably not that big of a difference.  One bedroom in a 2 bedroom condo is many times only 20%-25% of the  total condo's floor space.  It just depends on your layout.

A change in hardwoods isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it has to be transitioned well to look right.
