Yes, it happened with one of my listings. Similar scam with the guy being out of the country and needed the money sent to him. Wow, these seem so idiotic. Would anyone really fall for these and send money?

It has happened with one of my listings as well (last year). I knew someone at Yahoo (where they posted the scam) and told them about it. I also contacted the Dept of Homeland Security, division re: internet crimes.
I just hope no one sent the rats any money :(

All the time. Has been happening for years. Craigslist has warned people about these scams.
When i get calls from prospective renters (who were smart enough to drive by the property and then discover it's really for sale), I tell them to flag the post and report to craigslist.
It isn't just on craigslist...it happens on yahoo and google.
Hopefully, not too many people are being conned. But I had to laugh when one of my realtor friends played a trick on one of these folks by responding to the post (under an assumed name/email of course) and kept up the conversation, My friend played dumb, said he sent the payment to whatever wire transfer account, except that he was always either missing one number, or transposed some numbers. The scammer was getting anxious, then angry with each "mistake". What a hoot!

That has happened in the Milwaukee Wi area over the past year. some buyers even paid deposits, which I thought was crazy if you hadn't even seen the property to rent yet.... It was reported on the local news as a consumer warning. I have not heard of it in the last 3 months...

Has anyone else had listings hijacked and posted on Craigslist for rent?

However, this latest one, has prompted over 20 phone calls and landed me quite a few appointments!
