Has anyone had success with a buyout of the 2nd?

I have a 1st and 2nd mortgage on my home, that is now worth $125K less than I bought it for. I'm trying to get the loan modified on the 1st, but wondering if anyone has had luck asking the holder of the 2nd to settle on a buyout of that loan for less than the actual note?
