Julia,
You sound like a disgruntled ex-employee that likes to make up stories, huh? You found a thread that's 9 months old so you could bash them. That's not nice, is it?
I use them on all my refinance loans. They are terrific. Always talk to the escrow officer or title office and support staff in Santa Ana, CA which services Orange County, CA. Never, have one of my transactions been out-sourced anywhere. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best, I give them a 10. ..... Happy funding, Rudi

First american title company is my go to source for title and escrow. my local branch is top notch in both price and service. If your loan documents were prepared wrong this is either the loan officer or lenders error. the escrow officer follows the lenders instructions on the loan documents. if fees are incorrect, that signals a red flag that ethier lender or loan officer is not revewing thier estiamated settelment statement, fee disclousure, or revewing loan documents before you sat down to endorse.

I worked there for quite a while. They send 80% of their work offshore but aren't allowed to tell the customers. The majority of their orders are processed in the Phillipines or India. They even search the land records in the other countries with the online access provided by Fatco. Who knows, maybe they have their closing docs processed over there now too. I suppose it's possible.

Am I understanding the info in your question to mean you chose a real estate agent who actually was your loan officer also?
I see some major issues with that based on 15 years of seeing really good loan officers and those that were lacking. The lacking ones try really hard to explain the problems from a light that they take no blame.
If all the documents weren't delivered a full day before the signing which had to be at least a day before the closing date on the purchase, the lender didn't get their part of the job done correctly... Or the agent didn't have the foresight to ride the lender early enough.
If they did a courtesy signing at your home, it sounds like they were working hard to help you.
I have had a few escrow officers have difficulty in the last 15 years, but those are rare. Most problems at the closing table are caused by the lender not pushing their people fast enough - or the agent not completing items prior to closing that delay signing.

I concur with the others. Sounds like a fluke. Too bad you had such an experience. Many times if docs are redrawn it is a lender issue, not Title but the Title company gets blamed.
I hope the end result at least met your expectations.

They're good, a first-rate company. And things sometimes go wrong.

I regularly close with FATCo. I'm suprised to hear you had a problem with the company. I would recommend your agent and loan officer sit down with the manager and have a talk. They have a good history in town.

I don't think these problems are prevalent throughout the company. I've worked with First American on many transactions and things went very smoothly.
It sounds like, from your timeline, that many of the documents were held up by the lender, and possibly the other participants in your transaction. Closing documents coming in late are a lender issue 90+% of the time, not an escrow company issue.

First American Title as a company is fine, but your poor customer service experience may have been limited to that particular escrow officer at that branch. It's also possible they were covering for the lender... sounds wierd that you got a whole new set of docs the second time.

Has anyone worked with First American Title Company?
