Home Inspection

Profile picture for spallav
I'm a first time home buyer and I would like to know all that included in the home inspection process.

Do I have to go with the Inspector recommended by the agent or can I have an independent inspection done on my own?

Any ideas - I found the house near Richmond Virginia..

You can use any inspector you want to use. Often a Realtor will give a list of inspectors, but you are free to use the inspector of your choice.

One part of the inspection is where the inspector walks the prospective homeowner through the home and explaining how things work. So plan on being there during at least part of the inspection.

You should have an inspection done! It is for your protection and your agent most likely works with one they trust, but you can use anyone you want. You are paying for it so if you know a good inspector or have a good recomindation use that person.  They will go through the house and let you know of any damage or issues that  will cost you money. The inspection should take 3 hours they check the roof plumbing and under the house. They should check outlets, and for any wood distroying bugs.
Good Luck
