Home value

We jsut finished our basement and added an additional 1100 square feet of finished basement. Other houses in the same area with a finished basement are valued at closer to $425,000. When and how does the price change for our home now that we had aour final inspection and our basement is finished?

It depends on whether you are talking about the value or the tax assessment value.

If you have pulled the proper permits you may be reassessed by the county.

If you mean market value, it depends on what you have done in the basement. You may see up to 80 percent return dollar for dollar.

However, you could see as little as 50 cents on the dollar return.

In this market, you may see less but you may also be the first to sell which equates in less time on the market. i.e. time is money
