House Swapping

Is there a such thing as house swapping? I am interested in relocating to Atlanta, Ga. I have a house for sale in Philly.

House swapping does exist, but it is incredibly rare. The properties would have to be owned free and clear by both parties and, obviously, both parties would have to be willing to relocate to the exact area in which the homes are located. It isn't impossible; however, it is unusual.

If two homes are paid for, of equal value, and two families agree that they want to purchase each other's homes, you go ahead and buy the two homes, that is as close to a "swap" as you will get.  How real, that's a different story!

In addition to Mack McCoy said, At times it may be very hard to find! I would suggest that you consult your local real estate professional and see what He/She will advise you.

No.

Let me take that back. Yes, if both parties own their homes free and clear. If there's a mortgage on one or both, then it's not any different than a regular sale.

All the best,
