I would call your local building department and ask if they have the original permit available. That should tell you who the builder was. Many municipalities have building records going back 70 years or more.

Ultimately you will need to check with your local government agancy that issues building permits. It may be a good step to check with your city/county tax assessor and obtain a copy of you tax record first. The tax record should give you and idea of when you home was built.
