How can we find out who is the owner of the house next door?

The current residents are renters and refuse to tell us who the owners are. The cinder block fence is falling over and nearly fell on our son. We are trying to contact the owner to get them to fix it. Please help!

Sarah,

This is serious....You can contact the Orange County Tax  Collector's Office at 714-834-5031. They can provide you with this info.

Ownership records can be found through your country tax assessor online.  If you have difficulty finding this information on your own, and you have a real estate broker, they should be able to access these records for you.  Good luck on the fence!

That sounds like a job for Mr. Building Inspector. That is a safety issue. You tried to go about it in a civil way and got no help. A nice letter from the city can get things moving, and when the owner stops by explain to him about trying to contact him/her and no one would help you or tell him/her about the problem. That makes a landlord grumpy.

Do a deed search at your local courthouse.  This kind of information is public knowledge...anyone can see it & find it.

The tax assessor's office may be the best place.  Often you can find this on line.

Often fences dividing two lots become shared property with both parties sharing in the costs of maintenance.
