It's not true that no one else can claim a home once the homeowners have it listed as "Make Me Move." This is exactly what happened to us. We were booted off of our own property listing and were not even able to log back in until we contacted Zillow. The agent with the account at Sawitonline.com was able to take the listing out from under our control and we were not asked for permission.

Zillow recently changed how they display properties and their advertisements and I think this may have caused the confusion. We run advertising on Zillow in the 87111 zip code (and others) to market our listed properties, and are also what Zillow calls a "Premier" Agent for this area. Premier agents are displayed on properties that do not have a listing broker or homeowner registered with Zillow to allow people to ask questions if they want (this is what's new). These Agents are not shown as the "Listing" agent just as an Agent, but this is causing confusion. I talked to someone at Zillow last week and it sounds like they are getting lots of calls/complaints similar to your question.
You do need to have some basic information on the ownership of a property to clam it on Zillow. It's not a perfect system because anyone can get that info from the county records. But... If someone has a property listed as a "Make Me Move", no one else can claim it until the owner releases it. I know this for sure because clients of ours have had to do that for us to activate the advertising we do on Zillow.
It looks like you have it all fixed with Zillow and are now showing as the contact. If you have any questions or want to contact me you can call me direct at 505-263-0556. Regards, Tego Venturi

Contact your Local Board of Realtors. May have been as simple as the address number was entered incorrectly.

Zillow customer service was able to reset it, but they can't guarantee something like this won't occur again. The listing apparently came from Sawitonline.com and there is no name listed. Zillow is trying to find out what happened but there's an obvious flaw in the system if just anyone can hijack an owner's listing without having to prove they're an agent or have the owner's permission.

This sounds a bit like an issue I ran into on Craig's List recently--someone had copied my ad, created a fake email address using my name, and re-posted my rental at $250 less per month. It was one of those Nigerian scams to try and get unwitting renters to send $ overseas.
Do post and let us know what happens--people need to see how the website resoves these issues!

Contact Zillow immediately. Since you received an email, they should be able to reset your password and let you back in to correct the problem. I would then contact the agent directly to find out why this happened.

Can you contact the agent? It's completely unethical for an agent to market an unlisted property!
How did an agent list our home for sale on Zillow when we don't have an agent and it's not for sale?
