Thanks, Faye. I got your email with the link to the public record that shows that public records are, as I suspected, correct. The property classification on the public records is:
RSP - RES SINGLE PUD
To break that down:
RES = Residential
SINGLE = Single Family Home
PUD = Located inside of a Planned Unit Development (i.e. The home is part of a planned community that includes access to common areas.)
While a PUD community can include multi-family homes in it's plan, our home is not a condo or multi-family home. While there are a few duplexes in our community, most homes are single-family homes and should not be marked as Condos by Zillow.
Thanks again for your help,
Curtis

Hi theoreillys,
A member of our Customer Support team will be in touch with you to help get this straightened-out. In general, there are certain data from the "Public Records" that we can fix, some we cannot do so directly, and we can walk you through how to update your Home Facts:
Updating Home Information on Zillow
Again, we'll be in touch with you directly.
Thanks for your patience, and for using Zillow!

wordsmth,
Apparently I used the wrong wording in my subject line. The problem I have is not the public sale price (which, is not disclosed in Utah anyway), but the public facts. According to Zillow, public records show most of the homes in my neighborhood as "condos". I doubt that the public records really say that. I think Zillow simply made a mistake.
So, if their Zestimate tool is very smart at all, I can't imagine that the classification of "condo" instead of "single family homes" in my neighborhood can be good for the valuation algorithms Zestimate likely uses.

Commenting on one of the comments here, I very seriously doubt that any state or county taxing authority uses Zestimates in determining assessments. Appraisers certainly shouldn't. Sorry: I don't believe that.
Now, if the public record is wrong, you might want to correct that. Still, if you bought more than 6 months ago or so, even the public record isn't going to count for anything. What matters are comps--recent sales.

Thank you for your replies. I had to look around for the "flag" option that aagilio mentioned... the only place I could find that was on a "Price History" record that was marked "Public Record".
But, what I was trying to change was a Public Fact (sorry, I guess I said "Public Record" in my subject line). To view Public Facts you click on "More Facts" and it shows a column of "Public Facts", which I assume are from public records somewhere.
Unfortunately, Zillow's source is wrong here because there have never been condos in my neighborhood.
I did just find the link at the bottom of my listing that says "Report problem with listing"... which I just used, but I guess there's little hope that they will fix this based on what you guys are saying. I suppose eventually there'll be a class action lawsuit and Zillow will wake up and realize that they can not ignore requests for them to correct invalid information.
Oh well, thanks again. :-)

Unfortunately, here in Illinois the appraisers use Zillow to value your home for a refinance. My public record (the price I purchased the home for) is incorrect by 200,000 dollars and not in my favor, of course.

Hello,
I've sent messages to Zillow before too and they don't respond. I just know that you can claim your own property and make corrections on your own but not neighboring properties. I guess if everyone went in and changed their own as well.
I will tell you this, zillow's estimates don't work here in Utah. Other states it may work just fine but Utah is a non-disclosure state and they don't disclose what properties sell for. This is the information that zillow uses in other states to create a zestimate. So, the zestimates here in Utah are inaccurate anyway. My own neighborhood the zestimates are either too low or too high compared to what the actual fair market value is.
I hope this helps you figure things out with zillow.

Click on the flag icon next to the incorrect data and send a message to Zillow. This is what Zillow asks you to do.
Unfortunately, this does not work. I've sent 5 or more messages every 2 weeks to Zillow, and they do not respond or correct the error.
How do I correct public records?
